Interpretation: Slingshot Configuration or Motivated Yod
On one of the boards, I was asked to interpret two slingshot configurations. Thinking this might be of interest to those studying astrology, I have copied my answer here.
I would begin by renaming these as “motivated Yods” rather than slingshots. Interestingly these two both have Mars as the “motivator.”
To me, the longtime positive transiting aspect between Neptune and Pluto hosts a general rise in consciousness. This general condition becomes the context for both Yods and is highlighted and given a personal meaning by them.
Leo Pluto/1st sextile Libra Neptune in 3rd
both inconjunct Pisces Moon 8th opposite Virgo Mars 2nd
Begin with the opposition in the 2nd-8th axis–which marks the learned value system. Now, (more in the past than now) there has been a common teaching that we can have what we need, but not what we want. Notice that Lunar needs are “mastered” in the sign of Pisces. What you really need will come to you–though because of the 8th house placement you may not realize this until you reach adulthood. Meanwhile, Mars in Virgo must handle his desires on his own. In the second house, this ability is a personal asset–an inborn talent.
However, a 2nd - 8th opposition may have difficulty knowing what to keep and what to let go, so you may get things only to have them disappear. Given the evolutionary level of the sextile, you will not be able to keep anything that you do not regard as valuable and necessary–hence the loss of acquired desires.
What you need to know is that Mars/Desire is an expression of the “needs of the Spirit.” If you want a thing, it is because it is needed for your spiritual growth and/or its expression. Herein lies its value. Affirm the value of everything you want . . . if you wish to keep it.
Literally, I think this Yod is one destined or committed to becoming a channel for good and/or beauty in the world. Interestingly, that “good” may consist of “feeding the economy.” These people channel a lot of money through their lives. You should never try to pile it up in savings accounts. If you do not use it (Virgo) you will lose it.
The commonality between Leo, Libra and Pisces suggests artistry/creativity. This one may “paint on the canvass of the world.”
Scorpio Pluto 4th sextile Capricorn Neptune 6th
both inconjunct Taurus Chiron 11th opposite Scorpio Mars 5th
Begin with the opposition in the 5th - 11th axis of roles. Here the 5th /personal role (warrior/slayer) is at odds with the 11th/impersonal role of Chiron/Healer. Taurus is valuable and probably physical. One wonders whether you wanted to be a Doctor. Mars in Scorpio should be great for energy work, so you could channel that through your Chiron/Hands.
Looking back to the sextile, Scorpio-Capricorn confers “the right to do anything that you have the ability to do.” The whole construct suggests that your “right service” is to apply the potent energy of Scorpio Mars to some type of (channeled) healing.
Scorpio, Capricorn, Taurus suggests a very practical kind of success, lived out as a “living lesson” or mission to prove the practical value of spiritual growth.
